DEMOCRAT AMOS POWERS CALLS ON REP. WILLIAMS TO DEMAND EXPULSION OF REP. DURHAM

Cookeville, TN (14 July 2016) -- Candidate for State House District 42 Amos Powers called on Rep. Williams to demand a special session to expel embattled Rep. Jeremy Durham

“After the Attorney General’s report proved that Rep. Jeremy Durham sexually harassed young women and interns, the people of this district deserve to know where Representative Williams stands. He has a simple choice, either Rep. Williams stands with the almost two dozen victims of Rep. Durham’s sexual harassment and call for a special session immediately to vote to expel Rep. Durham or he can follow the Republican leadership as they continue in their failure of leadership and refuse to hold Durham accountable for his disturbing and disgusting behavior.

The people deserve to know whether Rep. Williams will continue putting politics ahead of people and if so, then it’s clearly time for new leadership in our district. Voters send people to Nashville to do the job of representing them and their interests, not the interests of members or political party. This matter is not a private matter when it happens at the state capitol. Everyday Tennesseans would have been fired for the exact same behavior.”

Cookeville, Tenn – Amos Powers, a resident of Cookeville and a graduate of Tennessee Tech University, announced that he will run as a Democrat for the Tennessee House of Representatives for the 42nd District.

Powers has filed qualifying papers with state officials. The seat that Powers will be running to fill is currently held by Rep. Ryan Williams. Amos is ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work ensuring that we have someone fighting for the 42nd District in Nashville.

And they need officials who will support equal pay for equal work, and investments in our public schools and public infrastructure.”

“Powers, continued, I am focused on moving past political gridlock and the misplaced priorities of our current elected officials in Tennessee. At a time when polls show that most Tennesseans are less satisfied with their standard of living and more likely to say it is getting worse, we need a leader who is focused on solving problems and making the lives of ordinary Tennesseans better”

“I am committed to working on the issues that make a real difference and not continue the partisan bickering, but ensuring that people have the tools they need to succeed. A state representative has a responsibility to focus on problem solving.”
